The Prayer Shawl Ministry at Bessie Gray Memorial United Methodist Church held it's organizational meeting on May 16,2004. Since that initial meeting over four hundred prayer shawls have been knitted or crocheted, dedicated by our pastor during a worship service, and then given to its recipient as a expression of love and concern.  The shawls are given to those who are ill, going through a difficult time, facing a crisis, grieving the loss of a loved one or rejoicing in a happy occasion in life. Baby shawls are also dedicated and given to children who are baptized in our church. Some of our members knit prayer scarves that are given to graduating seniors from our church each June on Graduating Sunday. Meetings are held on the second Thursday of each month. Anyone wishing to join us is always welcome.

The Bessie Gray United Methodist Women's Group reaches out to all Women. This organization is comprised of several groups including UMW Executive Committee, Jennie Lynon and the Prayer shawl Ministry. Throughout the year they host various events, including Dinners, Flea Markets, Baked sales, Tea's and much more.
